Instead of covering the cardboard covers with scrapbook paper I cut rectangles of fabric: flannel for the outside and a satiny fabric from the inside. I cut the flannel about an inch bigger on each edge than the cardboard and cut the satin the same size as the cardboard. Once you account for the seam, the flannel will fold into the inside edge.
Sew together three sides making the pocket that forms as close as you can to the width of the cardboard.
Punch the holes in the cardboard, then slide the fabric over the cardboard. You’ll have to hand-stitch the bottom close. Use straight pins to locate and mark the holes punched in the cardboard.
Then use the Coptic stitch like the other journals.
